Sister Bea Baker in El Paso

Congrégation de Notre-Dame

Sister Bea Baker will go to El Paso, Texas on Thursday November 8 to volunteer for 8 days at the Annunciation House for Immigrants. Recently immigration officials have been releasing large numbers of migrants seeking asylum to shelters along the border, and these shelters lack the personnel and funds to deal with this influx. In response, LCWR has asked its congregations to send donations and, where possible, sisters; because of Bea’s generosity, we are able to do both. We are very grateful to her and suggest that all of us pray the following blessing, composed by Sister Rosemary Sullivan, each day Sister Bea is in El Paso.

Bea hopes to send messages while she is in El Paso.

She recommends the following articles to help us understand the situation in El Paso:

BLESSING PRAYER FOR BEA BAKER

Most gracious and merciful God,

In union with our compassionate, courageous Foundress Marguerite,

we give you thanks and praise.

We ask you to bless our Sister Bea and all those going to the border

to be voices of welcome in the midst of fear and distrust.

As Marguerite went to the docks

to welcome those seeking a better life in Ville Marie,

let the voices of welcome give new strength

to all those seeking to cross our southern border.

We rejoice that Bea’s presence makes all of us present,

and for this we are grateful.

We are mindful of our call to welcome the stranger in our midst

wherever we may be.

          Amen
