Associate Coordinators Visit PEI Groups to Provide Visitation Assembly Presentations

North Rustico Associate Vernon Buote

Associate groups from Charlottetown and Rustico, PEI, met at Andrews Lodge, Charlottetown, on Tuesday 27 November, 2018, to enjoy a two-hour presentation by Associate Coordinators Marjorie Allison - Ross and Anna Rowley. They gave an excellent summary of the results and agreements found at the Visitation Province Associates Assembly held in Montreal, QC, May 18-21, 2018.

The presentation took the form of a prayer service through contemplation and reflecting on the theme, "ON FIRE FOR MISSION" praying " how then shall we live". Through readings, song and sharing we reviewed the Assembly process used in developing core values for associate relationship and how these values speak to us today.

The process in Montreal centered on giving name to the Associate experience. Prior to the Assembly, a word cloud made up of the 144 words that had been previously submitted by Associates and Sisters was created. It was shared at the Assembly and used to develop the Core Values that describe key aspects of Congrégation de Notre-Dame Association. From the table discussions, there were 40 core values at each table. Each table came to consensus on 5 Core Values for their table. Through table conversations, the 40 Core Values were narrowed down to 5 at the end of the day. Later the Coordinators revised them to make one an overarching statement and 4 Core Values.

The Four Values are as follows:

1. HONOR THE SACREDNESS OF ALL CREATION ... by accepting that all creation is interconnected and interdependent we must find ways to safeguard creation through prayers, exposure to other cultures as well as listening to the cry of Mother Earth;

2. UNITY IN DIVERSITY... by living our Pentecost charism while promoting unity in living with openness to discovering newness in each other while we let go our fears and celebrate our differences and unique cultural heritages;

3. ACT WITH COURAGE AND BOLDNESS... emboldened by the Holy Spirit we follow the example of Marguerite who willingly responded to God's call, we shall seek to affirm the dignity of the human person and care for creation by daring to transcend the limits of our place and culture and bear witness to the truth;

4. BE FLEXIBLE AND OPEN TO CHANGE... trusting in God we shed our preconceived ideas and take risks encouraging questions, seeking education, formation and while bringing forward what is valuable and fact based to enable rational thought.

Considering these core values, all agreed that they are very much interconnected and that we strive to activate all the values and that the sacredness of all creation be the overriding value. Overall, the presentation summarizing the Assembly "ON FIRE FOR MISSION" was enlightening and challenging. It was most gratifying to learn and know that the associate attendees at the Montreal assembly worked so hard and cooperatively to develop essential core values for us associates to emulate and live as we go forward considering "how then shall we live".
