Praying for Peace for Honduras in the New Year

Monica Lambton, JPIC

A session was held at the mother house on the Migrants' Caravan coming from Honduras with Honduran journalist Felix Molina. The room was full of Congrégation de Notre-Dame Sisters and staff and guests from many collaborating organizations. It was an excellent session. The most significant stat for me was that if the doors were opened 70% of Hondurans say they would leave. The situation is truly desperate. Felix said it is an Exodus without a Moses, or rather an Exodus with many Moses, most of them women. He said 'Hope has run out' or rather 'Time has run out on Hope' meaning that for years since the coup the people continued to hope but with the latest fraud and the international community backing the illegitimate government and with the violence continuing to rise, time has run out on hope. There is a summary from CND Social Justice Network Coordinator Bineta Ba on the JPIC Icon on First Class that includes more information, including the background reasons for people leaving, in which almost all Canada is seriously implicated. Let us commit to continue working for justice for Honduras, or at least working for hope, in the New Year.
