Visit with CND Sisters in Saint-Louis-de-Kent, NB

Frances Connell, CND Associate, Miramichi, NB

On Saturday, November 9th Miramichi Associates Gail McKibbon and Frances Connell travelled to Saint-Louis-de-Kent to present eight prayer shawls to the Sisters of the Congregation de Notre-Dame who live there.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry was founded in St. Mary’s Parish, Miramichi almost ten years ago by Gail McKibbon. Sister Marie St.Coeur and Associate Carmel Doyle have been with the group since its beginning. [Photo: Frances Connell with the Sisters wearing their new prayer shawls.]

This important parish ministry has distributed over two thousand prayer shawls to folks in local hospitals and nursing homes and homes and places in all parts of Canada and many countries overseas. In addition to the prayer shawls, over two hundred white baby shawls have been given to infants at their Baptism. All the shawls have been prayed over and blessed and sprinkled with holy water before distribution. They are made in a prayerful atmosphere in weekly gatherings that begin and end with prayer and sharing.

We were warmly welcomed by the Sisters who gratefully received the blessed prayer shawls and invited us to join them in a delicious lunch of Acadian Chicken Fricot.

The visit concluded with a rendition of beautiful piano music by Sister Jacqueline Boudreau of great musical talent. It was truly a most enjoyable visit with our French Acadian Sisters and one we will remember for a long time to come.
