Development and Peace

Dorena Hall, PEI Associate

This year's theme, People and Planet First, is inspired by Pope Francis' message of integral ecology. The campaign highlights the fact that all too often, the fundamental rights of the most vulnerable people, including their right to a healthy environment, are not respected by the current economic model. People and Planet First is about reaffirming our obligation to safeguard human rights. With this campaign, we hope to grow the chorus of voices calling for mandatory corporate social responsibility legislation.

Sign the petition and ask your friends, family and fellow parishioners to do the same. Use and share the online petition! To learn more about the campaign, we invite you to contact your local animator and/or find engaging , informative resources on their website, https://www.devp.org/en/campaign/people-planet-first.

Just a reminder that Haiti still needs our support. There is an enormous need for food, water, shelter, clothing, blankets, first aid supplies, hygiene kits, vehicles and fuel. Development and Peace partners, Caritas Haiti and the Institut de Technologies et d'Animation (ITECA), are very busy with relief and coordinating efforts under Haiti's National Risk Management Plan. On the bright side, in the small commune of Cavaillon, 13 of the 14 houses Development and Peace built after the 2010 earthquake have withstood the current earthquake. You can donate online through the link on their home page https://www.devp.org/en/.
