Peace & Justice News - Blessed Sacrament Province

Sr. Rose Mary Sullivan

Dear Sisters and Associates, I strongly encourage our Province’s continued participation in the Congregation of Notre Dame effort to address Climate Change. We got off to a great start in September at the Climate March. Many also participated in the Our Voices campaign and in the Global Chorus. Later, in several locations including Wilton we actively participated in the Light for Lima Prayer Vigil.

I propose that we use Valentine’s Day to send a Valentine to Creation and to Creation’s Creator. I emailed some suggestions for concrete actions (Pledges) on behalf of Creation which each of you can take. I leave it to you to make your own choice(s). In the spring, I will send you a survey to complete so I can assess our Province’s effort on this issue.

Elizabeth Johnson in She Who Is, points out a startling and touching truth. “Within the Christian Story it is possible to see that divine self-emptying in the incarnation and passion of Christ is not an uncharacteristic divine action. Rather, this historical moment discloses the pattern of Sophia-God’s love always and everywhere operative. Divine freely self-giving love did not begin with God’s personal entering into human history but is so typical that it plays out at the dawn of creation itself.” In a way, creation is one of God’s Valentines to us. How will you respond?
