Visitation Province

Celebrating Jubilees: A joyous celebration was held at Our Lady of Lourdes parish, Toronto, on May 17 to honour a few Golden Jubilarians, Eileen Power, Margaret Paterson and Donna Rose, and Diamond Jubilarians Lucille Corrigan, Anne Fallon and Marilyn von Zuben. CND sisters, associates, family and friends enjoyed an afternoon reception from 3 to 5 pm ending with a blessing ritual for the celebrants. Magnificat!

Corporate Stance Deadline is Coming Soon! Our process for the Corporate Stance is moving along well. In the JPIC letter sent last month, we said, "All signed statements must be received by Sr. Catherine Walker in the Bedford office by June 15th (preferably before)." I encourage you to put emphasis on the 'preferably' before part! As soon as you are able, please send your signed papers to Catherine, aiming for the first week of June by the latest. All statement must be received by the FIRM deadline of June 15th. The sooner sister Catherine receives and tallies, the easier for everyone. Thank you for your cooperation.

Over the past several months, sisters and associates across Visitation Province have been studying and reflecting upon our current Climate Crisis and how we can respond with Climate Action, as part of our discernment of the Corporate Stance. I have had the opportunity to visit all regions of the Province, and most local groups. I want to thank everyone for the warm reception and generous hospitality that I received from Halifax, PEI, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Kingston and the Cache Creek gathering of the sisters and associates of the west. Special thanks to members of our JPIC Core Committee and others who facilitated gatherings as well. I have been deeply moved by the faith filled responses of hope and solidarity expressed by so many. May the Corporate Stance lead us further down a path of witness and action on this critical global concern.

Grateful for Prayerful Support: Sister Regina McQuaid facilitated a discernment process with us as we considered our call to be associate co-coordinator here in the East. The discernment process was a life giving and blessed experience for us both. St. Joseph Renewal Centre was the perfect place and space in which to discern. The hospitality shown to us by sisters Catherine, Claire, Éléonore and Coline together with Peg and Carl Madigan added to the richness of the experience. We are grateful for the prayerful support we have received throughout this process from the Congregation of Notre Dame sisters and associates.

Announcement of new associate area co-coordinator in the East: We are grateful to both Dianne and Anna for being so wholehearted in entering into the process. We have named Anna Rowley to work together with Marjorie Allison-Ross as the new co-coordinator of Associate Relationship in the East. Anna’s appointment begins in August 2015 and is a three year commitment.

We, sisters and associates, wish Anna our on-going support in the words of the poet John O’Donohue:

Awaken your spirit to adventure Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk Soon you will be home in a new rhythm, For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

Movies: If you missed Selma earlier this year, it is now available on DVD. It is the story of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery marches for voting rights for US black citizens. Very moving and well presented to show the power of determined people.

Also on DVD, a film called Still Mine (limited release 2012; general release 2013) is a true story of a New Brunswick farmer and the bureaucracy struggles he encountered when he wanted to build a house for his wife entering into dementia difficulties. James Cromwell (Remember the farmer from Babe, a long time ago?) and Genevieve Bujold are the actors. Very fine film!
